Former Chinese Ambassador to the EU and currently Senior Fellow of CPDS. The Iraq war once again triggered a debate about what kind of international order to be established. The world structure the United States wanted to set up would be one dominated only by itself. Nevertheless, the contemporary world structure is one, in which all countries, no matter big or small, enjoy equality according to international basic norms based on the UN Charter after the WWII. It is impossible that there is only one paradigm in the world chosen by the sole great power. All countries, big or small, should enjoy mutual respect, non-interference in each other's internal affairs and resolve world affairs through consultations. By doing so, it is the fundamental way of safeguarding the world peace and is also unremitting pursuance by the people of all countries.
