Rigorous scholarship is seen after a comparative reading of Mr Shen Zufen's modified Simple Interpretation of Tang Poets' Seven - character Quatrains against her initial Collected Writings on Tang Poets' Seven - character Quatrains. This paper analyses Shen's sense of scholarship and theoretical self-consciousness , her methodology of combining comment with textual research, and her claim that following suit can not equal uniqueness, and rules of poetry and those of ci should be able to communicate with each other.
