Together with two Japanese researchers, Prof. Qiu Jianrong of the CASShanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics recently received the Otto-Schott Award. Theawardees were selected for 'their outstanding research achievements in the area of opticalmaterials, especially for their pioneering work on femtosecond laser-induced microfeatures inglasses and the application of such novel materials to achieve new functionalities.' The prize waspresented by the Germany-based Ernst Abbe Fund on April 11 at the 2005 International Symposium onGlass in connection with the Annual Meeting of the International Commission on Glass held from April11 to 14 in Shanghai.
