With the rapid increase of information resources, it has become a very important problem for how to improve the speed of searching the information that we need. So, it is more and more important to popularize and develop the course of literature retrieval. The paper expounds the design goals, the environments of developing and running, the function and characteristic of the self-directed teaching system of literature retrieval course. In addition , the paper simply introduces some important technologies and core problems of the system.
