The composition and distribution of fouling Polychaeta in the northern part of the South China Sea sampled during the period from 1985 through 1994 were reported. I-dentified were 48 species belonging to 36 genera, 17 families of fouling Polychaeta, of which 11 species went to Sedentaria, with principal species being Hydrodes elegans, H. ezoensis and Spirobranchus tricornigeus, and 37 species to Erratia, with principal species being Nereis multignatha, Nectoneanthes multignatha and Parahalosydna pleiolepis- The relationship between distribution of fouling Ploychaeta and fouling communities was discussed.
