计算机科学的发展和人们对空间数据的需求，导致了地理信息系统的产生和发展，而现代通信技术和卫星定位技术的发展使得人们对空间行为（过程）进行时间或空间上的动态、实时观测成为可能。因此，ＧＩＳ、ＧＰＳ与通信技术的结合，使人们对空间数据的利用进入前所未有的层次。介绍了ＧＰＳ、ＧＩＳ（ＡＲＣ／ＩＮＦＯ）在车辆实时监控中的应用，阐述了系统的总体结构及ＧＩＳ在该系统中的功能，并提出了有待进一步探讨的问题。

The development of computer and the application of spatial information give rise tothe emergence and growth of GIS.Modern communication and satellite positioning tech-nologies make possible the monitoring of spatial behavior(or process)in real-time. This pa-per introduces the application of GPS and GIS in vehicle real-time monitoring. It describesthe system architecture and the role of GIS in this system. Furthermore ,it presents theproblems which still need to be explored in the future.
