Thert are three methods of melting or dissolving mineral in the preparation of analytic solution during the measurement of titanium dioxide in silicate rocks,i.e. melting method of sodium carbonate. melting method of sodium peroxide and dissolving method of phosphate. Of them using the last one to measure titanium dioxide in silicate rocks is a simple and high-speed analytic method. There are a great difference in analytic results measured by three methods. The measured titanium dioxide content by melting methods is identical and the titanium dioxide content by dissoling is lower than former. The contrast suggests that the melting method of sodium carbonate is suitable for measurements of titanium dioxide in systematic analysis and single sample, sodium peroxide method is suitable for the analysis of titanium dioxide in single sample and the phosphate method is suitable for samples decomposed easily by phosphoric acid. Due to a complex mineral composition of silicate rocks,the dissolving method of phosphate can not he used in the measurement of titanium dioxide without understanding the mineral composition of samples.
