he adsorption of NH3, CO and CO/H2 on ZrO2, γ--Al2O3 and ZrO2/γ--Al2O3 has been studied by in situ FT--IR. And it is found that their adsorption properties are different. ZrO, exhibits Lewis acid, γ-Al2O3 exhibits both Lewis and Bronsted acids, while ZrO2/γ--Al2O3 exhibits strong acidic character (including both Bronsted and Lewis acids). The FT--IR results of adsorbed CO/H2 show that there is no absorption band at range 3600 -- 1200 cm-1 on ZrO2, but the bands at 1630, 1600 and 1430 cm-1 appear on ZrO2/γ-Al2O3. The result of hydrogenation of carbon monoxde to olefins (C2 ̄C4 ) over ZrO2/γ-Al2O3indicates that the molecular weight distribution of hydrocabons formed on the catalyst remarkably deviates from Schulz--Flory distribution. The result of XPS shows that the binding energy (Eb= 74. 6 eV) is related to Al in the normal structure of Y ̄AI,O,, while the Eb(75. 6 eV) is relatedto Al which presents in ZrO2/γ-Al2O3. The above results indicate that there is strong interaction between ZrO2 and γ-Al2O3 in ZrO2/γ-Al2O3prepared by impregnation method.
