The incorporation of Ti atoms into various types of zeolite by vapor-solid isomorphous substitution method has been investigated. The -substitution products of TiCl4 with HZSM-5, Hβ, HL and HY zeolites at elevated temperature were characterized by XRD, IR and phenol-H2O2 hydroxylation.The experimental results show that Ti can be incorporated into the frame -work of HZSM--5 (Si/AI = 26) and H3, but can not be incorporated into that of HZSM-5 (Si/Al > 200), HL and HY. Pretreating the HZSM-5 (St/Al =26) and Hβ zeolites with dilute HCl acid and steam enhances the incorporation reaction and hence increases the amount of Ti incorporated. The hydroxylation activity and selectivity of the Ti-ZSM-5 and Ti-β zeolites are lower than those of the TS-1 catalyst prepared via directly hydrothermal synthesis with TPAOH as a templating agent. The reason for their inferior catalytic performance in H2O2 oxidation has been discussed.
