T-lymphocyte subgroups and B-lymphocytes in 80 patients with essential hypertension were measured and compared with those in 30 normotensive subjects. The results showed that there were T-cell and B-cell disorders in hypertensive patients which were indicated by decreased OKT_4 and OKT_8 cells in association with an increase of B-cell. and also in relation to the severity of hypertension. There was statistically significant difference in T-cell subgroups and B-cell between the severe hypertensive patients and the control subjects(P<0.001).We believe that cell immunity might play a role in the development of essential hypertension.
