This paper discusses the effect of N and P fertilizers upon yield increase in potato plants on cold-rainfed hilly farmland and also suggests the rational application of N and P fertilizers in accordance withdifferent land fertility. The optimal application of N and P fertilizer for potatoes should be N 5.297kg/mu and P2O53.253kg/mu with the ratio of N:P2O5=1:0.61 and profit/mu=38.57 Yuan from fertilization for the farm-land with low fertility; and N 6.680kg/mu,P2O53.997kg/mu with the ratio of N:P2O5=1:0.61 for the farmland with medium fertility and profit/mu=146. 13 Yuan; and N8.451k/mu,P2O54.093 kg/mu for the farmland with high fertility and profit/mu=164.72 Yuan.
