A new group-contribution estimation method is developed for determining the surface tension of Freon of methane and ethane systems based on the Van der Waals correlation and great data analyses. The new method is verified by calculating the surface tensions of 16 kinds of Freon and the calculating deviation is generally within ±5%. The surface tensions of HCFC-133a are estimated with the present method and by comparing the results with experimental values the deviations are within 12%. The estimated values are provided for the designs of synthetic process of HFC-134a and equipments as well as other applications for engineering calculation.
