摘要 本文先简述光纤通信自1966年发明以来三十年中发展的六个阶段性特征,然后分别叙述从电缆传输发展至光纤传输的经过,从点一点线路和点一多点发展至由许多结点和线路组成整体通信网的过程,指出光纤通信组网技术的重要性,说明光纤通信网从电话网和分组数据网发展至综合业务网和宽带网的趋向;最后解释光纤通信系统被称为“信息高速公路”基石的理由。 The paper begins with briefly describing the 6 stages of 30 years progress of the optical fiber communication since its invention in 1966.Then,it describes how the copper cable transmission was developed to optical fiber transmission;and how the point-to-point links and multipoints are recently developed to network formation,emphasizing the importance of networking technology.The paper also describes how the traditional telephone network and packet data network are being evolved to the integrated services digital network and broadband network using optical fiber transmission.Finally,the paper explains the reason why the optical fiber communication systems are called the bedrock of 'Information Superhighway'.
