Pratt & Whitney and its strategic partner, MTU of Germany, have set out to develop the Mid-Thrust Family Engine ( MTFE ) . GE/SNECMA plan to develop a derivative of the CFM56 engine, designated CFM56 lite . BMW R-R is developing BR700 engine family and is to have the BR715 available to support MD-95 flight tests in 1998. Allison is testing the AE301X demonstrator. Engines based on the AE301X would be targeted at 70 - 100-seat regional aircraft and large business jets. Allied-Signal also tested a common core in order to develop a series of engines which will be used for the future aircraft.
