A recent IATA forecast confirms that Asia-Pacific region ' s air traffic growth rate is far higher than the 5% annual rate expected world-wide in the current decade . The total number of movements in the region is expected to double over the next 10 years. Unfortunately the lack of guarantees that adequate infrastructure will be available leaves carriers facing congestion . By 1995 nearly half of the region ' s airports are expected to be capacity constrained. The main solutions lie in the introduction of the Future Air Navigation System and expanding old airports as well as building new airports.
