In this paper new derivative of 8-aminoquinoline were synthesized。 The color reaction ofcobalt(Ⅱ)with a new reagent,5-(4-carboxylphenylazo)-8-(p-toluenesulfonamido)quinoline (CPTSQ)and its optimum conditions have been investigated.CPTSQ was found tobe a sensitive and better selective reagent for the spectrophotometric determination ofmicroamount cobalt.In the presence of CTMAB,Co(II)reacts with CPTSQ basic mediumto form a violet-blue compex in the ratio of 1:3.Maxium absorbance of the complex is at590 nm with molar absorptivity 1.1×10 ̄5L/mo· cm. Beer′s law is applicable within therange of 0-11.0μg/25ml for cobalt.The interference of 30 foreign substances was examined.The method has been applied to determine microamount cobalt in component sample andVitamine B_(12)with satisfactory results.
