This contribution briefly represents a survey and results of the studies onmitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)in farm animals, Particularly in cattle and Pig. someproperties of mtDNA of farm animals,restriction endonucleases and restriction endonu clease analysis,mtDNA polymorphism among species and breeds were presented. Thesignificances of mtDNA polymorphism as an important maternal genetical marker instudying the origin and evolution of farm animal species and breeds were discussed.
