In Jiangsu,non-metallic minerals suitable for building materials are characteristic of rich reserve and various types including kaolin in Suzhou,attapulgite in Liuhe and Xuyi,gypsum and limestone in Pizhou and Nanjing,garnet gem in north Jiangsu.The reserve of above-mentioned minerals accounts for the forefront of the country;in which the reserve of attapulgite clay is in the first place in the country.Additionally the resources is rich in wollastonite,marble,calcite,pyrophyllite,rock crystal and glassy siliceous raw materials such as quartz sand and sandstone etc.The operation of most large and middle-sized mines of building non-metalliic minerals have been mechanized but the Production of many small-sized mines is also relative backward with low output and heavy waste.Comparing with the advanced exploitation level in the world,there also exist some problems e.g.low development and process extents of non-metallic minerals.To speed up the development of building minerals such as kaolin, attapulgite,gypsum,marble,quartz stone and siliceous sand,the dominant minerals in Jiangsu,the improvements of production and refined processes,development of new products and decrement of primary products ratio should be carried out.A series of measures including advanced and safety mining methods with low cost and preparation tecniques with high efficiency,recovery rate and low cost shall be introduced to raise the extents of mechanism and automatic production in mines and application levels of non-metallic minerals as well as the export ability of non-metallic minerals under the conditions of favourable terms and foreign investment.
