摘要 Mr.Luo Zhongrong has been an honest and simple cultivator in the field of music. With so many achievements in hand,he never boasts of his celebrity and has no shining titles on his name. What really makes him so respected and admired in the music circle? The answer should be found in his life, his music and his personality. He was transferred to the Creation Team of the Tianjin Central Conservatory Music Work Group in August 1951,and in 1956 he became composer-in-residence of the newly established Central Philharmonic Society. This period of seven or eight years may be regarded the first stage of this composer’s music career. The compositions of this period were mostly created according to the needs of the professional performing groups, covering a wide range of forms including small and medium sized vocal music and instrumental music pieces, most of which were successful ones. In 1958,he finished his Prelude to the Inauguration Ceremony of the Ming Tombs Reservoir, which marks the beginning of his second stage of his creation. This was then followed by a number of his new symphonic works, from the Symphony No.1 (1959),the symphonic suite Lake Honghu Red Guards (1960),the symphonic poem Sister Jiang (1960),the symphonic poem Protecting Yan’an (1960),the symphonic poem Lei Feng (1963),the Sichuan Suite (1963),the Symphony No.2 Nirvana of Phoenix (1964) to his last symphonic poem Sha Jia Bang (1965).This long list of works so familiar to the public witnesses his new height of creation.Another aspect of his bold exploration into new techniques and styles is his study on the twelve-note technique. In 1980,one of his art songs titled"Picking Up Lotus Across the River",composed in 1979,was published in the magazine Musical Works. This was his first attempt to use the twelve-note composing technique, and was also the first published Chinese work using twelve-note technique, which aroused great attention from the music circle. Mr.Luo’s music life involves another important aspect - teaching. Many of the famous composers such as Chen Qigang,Tan Dun,Guo Wenjing,Chen Yi,Zhou Long,Mo Wuping,Tang Jianping and Chen Xiaoyong,as well as other known or unknown musicians, have benefited more or less from his teaching or instruction. In modern China,Luo Zhongrong is really a rare artist who is so noble-minded and who has made such great achievements after experiences of so much hardship,in terms of various compositions in forms of mass songs, folk song rearrangement, folk instrumental music, art song, piano, chamber music and symphonic music, and in the fields of teaching, teaching material compilation, monographs and translation.
