The article gives an outline of the controversy over foreignization and domestication in the current circle of translation, sheds light upon the necessity and feasibility of using both of them in mutual translation of Chinese and English idioms, as well as their respective advantages and disadvantages. It makes the case that to choose one rather than the other in mutual translation of idioms is restrained by the language context, and puts up with the proposal that both of the methods be tactfully combined, mutually complemented, and flexibly disposed.
