TRUMAN's Statement with Respect to Taiwan on Jan.5,1950:Main Factors

1950年1月5日,杜鲁门政府首次明确表示美国将遵循历次有关台湾问题的国际协议,不干预台湾事务,不卷入中国内争,不给在台湾的国民党提供军事援助或军事顾问等。此举是美国当局从中国大陆“脱身”政策及其对台分离政策失败交互作用的产物,而旨在离间中苏的考虑、英国对美对台政策的影响,也是导致杜鲁门对台政策声明出台的主要原因。

On 5th Jan. 1950, President TRUMAN made a statement, reaffirming the foregoing Declarations with respect to Taiwan, that US would not pursue a course which would lead to involvement in civil conflict in China, nor provide military aid or advice to the Chinese Nationalist.Such a statement resulted mainly from American administration＇s disengaging policy from Chinese mainland and the failure of separating Taiwan secretly, the application of the “wedge strategy” of splitting Sino-Soviet and the British influence on American Taiwan policy.
