Influence of Logic on the Quality of EST Versions in Three Language Aspects

通过分析翻译、阅读和教学中的一些译例,从词汇、结构以及篇章三个层面讨论了逻辑对科技译文质量的影响。认为在翻译中,要掌握一定的逻辑知识,避免因思维不严密造成的译文表达失误;要学会用逻辑分析判断的方法理解源语,用逻辑思维梳理译文,从而用译入语准确充分地再现原文作者的思想,确保科技译文质量。

Translating is a kind of process of logic thinking. Confusion in concept,ambiguity in meaning and contradiction in structure have caused numerous mistranslations in EST versions. This paper, based on analysis of the mistranslated examples gleaned from reading, translation and teaching, discusses the influence of logic on the quality of EST versions in such three aspects as lexis, syntax and discourse. It concludes that mastery of some knowledge of logic is a necessity to avoid mistranslation for the lack of strictness and that only when we know how to understand the source language and “pack up”the version by means of logic, can we recreate the content of the original in the target language, thus ensuring the quality of EST versions.
