As a textual interpretation of The Robber, a well-known play by F. Shiller, this essay focuses on an examination of the writer's hidden ideas based on the design of the story development, namely, how to modify and handle the relationship between the state and the individual. The young Schiller wrote The Robber because of his opposition to feudal enslavement and seeking personal freedom. However, he did not exaggerate too much the pursuit of freedom due to his emphasis on individualism, whose early signs were shown in the script. This demonstrates the features rather popular among the German writers of the classical period. How to seek an expanding force possibly to be modulated between personal freedom and state power was a subject they had not solved and kept exploring endlessly.
