During June 28￣29, 2005, China’s LNG Satellite Station Seminar2005 was held by Guangdong Oil & Gas Association in Dongguan, anindustrial city in Guangdong Province. Though the LNG satellitestation is only a small link in the whole LNG industrial chain, itattracted more than 200 delegates to attend the seminar who were fromthe four state-owned petroleum giants (CNPC, SINOPEC, CNOOC,SINOCHEM), private-owned enterprises and foreign petroleumcompanies covering industries of urban fuel gas, pipeline transport,highway transportation, shipping companies and relevant facilities &materials suppliers. At the seminar, VIPs delivered wonderful lectures and delegates discussed the LNG satellite station, gasification station,transport facilities and technological processes. Delegates visited theLNG satellite station and other plants.At the seminar, delegates exchanged views on the experiencethey had gathered using LNG. They believed that the adoption ofLNG as the fuel gas source of urban pipelines is the best option tolaunch, cultivate and develop the gas market in urban areas. Usingtank trucks as convenient transporters, LNG can supply the gas to thecities immediately, no matter if there is a main gas line in theirdevelopment plan or not. It is quick to take effect and can rapidlyexpand the market. Upon availability of piped natural gas, LNGfrom the satellite station can be used for urban fuel gas peak-adjustment, and as an emergency gas source, thanks to LNG’sadvantages of high energy density and safety. That can save muchmore investment than building natural gas tank farms or large-sizegas tanks to be buffers for piped natural gas. Also, by takingadvantage of LNG bottle groups and skid-mounted gas stations,featuring convenient installation, simple technology, low cost andflexible movement, only a small amount of investment is needed tosupply those remote but developed rural areas with gas. Somedelegates point out that with the advance of natural gas projects,temporary gas supply sources and emergency gas sources should beconsidered. Besides adopting LPG and CNG as mobile emergencygas resource, we should also develop and use LNG in that way.A reliable multi-gas-source supply of LNG is an importantfoundation for developing the LNG market. Though there is only oneLNG gas resource in many areas in China, by building LNG plantsof different sizes in both coastal areas, and inland gas fields, themulti-gas-source LNG supply system is gradually taking shape andlaying a solid foundation for the development of China’s LNGmarket.
