Yijing and Methods of Harnessing Rivers in Chinese Past Dynasties

《易经》一书阐述的是人与自然的关系,里面涉及到许多有关水的论述。结合《易经》中水(坎)和土(坤、艮)的不同关系,我们可以把师、比和蒙、蹇分别表示为拦堵和疏浚两种不同的治水方略。中国历代的治水方略,主要都是采取疏浚法。

There are different relations between water （Kan Hexagram） and soil （Kun and Gen Hexagrams） in Yijing. Shi（ Group Action） and Bi（Union） Hexagrams, one side, and Meng （Obscurity） and Jian （Arresting Movement） Hexagrams, another side, both show respectively two basic methods of holding back and dredging away on the harnessing rivers, which were the methods of Kun and Yu in remote antiquity. The primarily method in Chinese past dynasties on the harnessing rivers was dredging away.
