Some specialty diols such as 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, cyclohexanediol, tricyclodecanedimethanol, cyclododecanediol, spirocyclic glycol, hydroquinone bis（2-hydroxyethyl） ether, and bis-hydroxyethyl ether of resorcinol are simply introduced in this paper. Their main properties, performance characteristics and the applications in polymer synthesis are also reviewed.
