The Gradual Popularization of Chinese Learning and Romanticism: On The Chinese Origin of Romanticism

<浪漫主义的中国根源>证实:中国的园林(建筑)观或审美观在16～18世纪推进并促成了欧洲的'浪漫主义转向'.其间,坦普尔和钱伯斯虽是两个关键人物,但欧洲人的'期待视野'制约了他们对中国审美观的理解,误读也就在所难免.本文力图通过评述,以辨清他们之间的异同.

The Chinese Origin of Romanticism has proved that the Chinese concept of gardening or aesthetics helped promote 'the turn to Romanticism' in Europe between the 16th century and the eighteenth century. Tempel and Chambers were two key figures but their European 'vision of expectation' hindered their understanding of Chinese aesthetics, which would surely lead to some misunderstandings. This paper expounds their similarities and differences through an incisive analysis.
