In 1497,the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama led a fleet of four vessels around the Cape of Good Hope,entering the Indian Ocean and arriving go Calicut in India.The inhabitants told him that over 90 years earlier,a formidable flet of vessels had already anchored htere several times,each time arriving with several dozens of enormous and well-equipped junks and many more smaller ones.
