欧阳修对苏舜钦的书法艺术评价极高,对苏的书学思想也非常推崇。他经常与苏舜钦就笔法以及其他相关问题展开讨论,涉及的范围很广,由于苏舜钦没有留下系统的书论著作,所以他论书的只言片语大都借以欧阳修的著作保留下来,他们以诗文唱和,以翰墨传情,共同营造了北宋良好的书坛氛围。因此,苏舜钦在北宋书坛地位的确立与欧阳修的褒奖和推介是分不开的。

Ouyang Xiu gave a higher evaluation of Su Shunqin＇ s penmanship, and respected Su＇s views on penmanship. He often discussed penmanship and other related issues with Su, covering a large range of topics. Because Su did not leave his own systematic writings on penmanship, his few opinions can only be found in Ouyang＇ s works. They communicated through poetry and letters, jointly creating a fair atmosphere for penmanship in the Northern Song Dynasty. Su became an important member of the of penmanship at the time mostly thanks to Ouyang＇ s high praise and recommendation.
