This editorial is being written in the blistering heat of mid-July. In the old times, we used to work with open windows, fans and no neckties. Today, of course, things have changed fundamentally. Unlike in the old times, almost all offices and apartments today are equipped with air conditioners. But air conditioners use a lot of power and it is well known that China＇s fast growing economy is facing some difficulties in coping with the surging power needs of industry.
