The Zoo Story was written by Edward Albee, the leading figure of The Theatre of Absurd， in 1959, the uniqueness of which lies in the fact that it combines reality with philosophical thinking. While attacking American optimism, the play also expresses the agony of life itself in metaphysical sense. The article tends to focus on Albee＇ s unique way of demonstrating his metaphysical thinking in terms of （1） the pre-setting of a “perfect system” ， followed by its degrading into an “off-balanced system”； （2） the employment of multi-layers of paralleled structures in the play。
