Transferred epithet is a kind of figure of speech in English. Based on the characteristics of the transferred epithet and its formal modified object, transferred epithet can be classified into four types. Comprehension and translation of transferred epithet into Chinese can be done by means of the comparison between transferred epithet and metaphor, the semantic relationship between the transferred epithet and its formal modified object, and the relationship between the transferred epithet and its logical modified object.
