一般认为,1949后沈从文已经失去了在文学史上的重要意义,但通过对他这一阶段的书信的考察,可以发现,这些书信在当代文学史上有其独特的重要地位:譬如其对“人事”之外的“天地”的注意,对“事功”之外的“有情”的强调,以及显示出的作家在一个剧烈变化的时代中的那种沉静达观的态度,不但在那一特殊年代有独特的意义,更显示出他的文学气象浑厚开阔的一面———而这一面经常被忽视或误解。

It was commonly considered that Shen GongWen had lost his place in literary history after 1949. In this essay, the author explored Shen CongWen＇s correspondence in this period and point out these letters have particular significance in contemporary literary history, such as Shen＇s attention to heaven and earth which is outside human affairs, his emphasizing on passionate besides success, as well as his still and philosophic attitude as a writer in a tempestuous age, all of these have their particular meaning not only in that passed unusual age, but also in present time. Shen＇s correspondence displays an open and majestic aspect of his literary writing which has been neglected or mistaken for a long time.
