伊塔洛·卡尔维诺的《看不见的城市》是一部以结构主义方法创作出的后现代主义小说。作者在全书的整体结构上严格贯彻了结构主义的基本原则,其结果是彻底颠覆了传统小说的情节、人物以及主题模式,转而确立了一种崭新的后现代主义写作模式。在这一前提下,作者明确地表达了自己对于语言、思想以及世界等问题的后现代主义观点。

By the mode of Structuralism,Italo Calvino wrote the postmodern novel Invisible Cites. In this novel,he carries through the basic principle of Structuralism to overturn the mode of the traditional novel,and founds a new writing mode of postmodern novel to express his postmodern standpoints about language, thought and the world.
