Abstract An investigation was made on the effect of the extract and crystal VI of Radix Changii on the respiratory system. The result showed that Radix Changii can markedly reduce the times of cough of mice induced by nebulized ammonia water, increase the output of phenol red through the mice’s respiratory tract, speed up the ciliary motion and prolong the incubation period of asthma in the guinea pig. This suggests that Radix Changii has the effect of relieving cough and asthma and reducing phlegm,which is related to the asparagine it contains.
