Application of INTERNET in Library and Information Services

本文介绍了在国际互联网上使用的主要网络工具，如电子信件、远程登录、文件传送协议、用户网、用户组服务站、用户组、考访服务站、广域信息服务站和环球网等的基本特点和功能，着重讨论了它们在图书馆信息中的应用。尽管国际互联网在我国的发展和普及还需要一段时间，但它的存在为人们建立和使用电子图书馆及信息中心奠定了必要的基础。

This paper describes the basic characteristics and functions of such major network tools used in INTERNET as E-mail, TeInet, File Transfer Protocol(FTP),Usenet,LISTSERV, Naillng List, Gopher, Wide Area Infor-mation Server(WAIS),World Wide Web( W W W),etc.,and discusses their app-lications in the field of library and information services.Although the develop-ment and popularization of INTERNET in China need some time, its existence lays a necessary foundation for building and using electronic libraries and infor-mation centers.
