独龙族聚居区即独龙江乡，是个边远少数民族特困山区，位于滇西北．乡内山高谷深，未通公路，土地面积１９９４（ｋｍ）￣２；１９９０年全乡独龙族人口３９９５人，占全国独龙族人口的７１．１％。农牧业是当地的两个支柱产业，在保护生态环境的前提下，采取择优开发自然资源、力争粮食生产自求平衡、开拓商品生产面向市场等措施，以不断提高农牧业开发的经济效益．

Drungjiang Xiang, a Drung Nationality Community , is located in Northwest Yunnan , at97°45'98°30'E , 27°40'-28°50'N. This Xiang is a special poor mountain region of outlyingminority nationality. The resion is inaccessible ,nationality is sinsle and economy is backwords.This Xiang land area is 1994 (km)￣2. The population is 4 057 ,amons which the population ofDrung Nationality is 3 995(in 1990). The popukition density is 2. 03/(km)￣2In 1990 , total income of rural economy in Drungjiang Xiang was 62 × 10￣4 yuan (RMB) ; thetotal yield of the srain was 69. 5 × 10_4 kg; the cultivated land area was 5. 3 (km )_2, and thecultivated coefficient only was 0. 27%; the asricultural productive income was 31 × 10￣4 yuan(RMB) ,and was 50. 0% of the total income of rural economy in whole Xiang. The availablegrasaland should be 545. 0 (km)￣2 , but developed area was 47. 0 (km )￣2. The animal husbandryproductive income was 11 × 10￣4 yuan (RMB) ,is 17. 7 % of the total income of rural economy.The yield of meat only is 36 × 1 0￣4kg and very low. The agriculture and animal husbandry play amain role ,and are two pillars in local area.The agricultural development of this Xiang should be following ways : to improve and keep agood circle of the natural ecology and asricultural ecology, and strictly forbid to destroy theprimeval forest, to put the stress on developins srain production, and integratedly to developflower , medicine ' vegetable and tea ; to exploit the commodity production with local features , andincrease the integrated economic effects of agricultural development.The development to the animal husbandry in this Xiang should be following ways : vigorouslyto exploit the grass slope and srass mountain ,to increase the herbivorous animal and full use thewild feed plants,to improve the raising effects to become self-sufficient in meat and to devote agreat effort to developing the commodity production with local fcatures in Drungjiang Xiang.The population of Drungjiang Xiang will be 4 600 in 2000.
