The plant phototoxins are excitedby absorption of light to produce singlet oxy-gen or radicals which damage cell membranesystems and protein or nucleic acid molecules. The excited phototoxins have a very importantrole in plant defensive responses to viruses,bacterium,fungus,nematodes,and plants.
