In this paper, the author firstly introduced the applications of illite crystallinity in grading the extreme-low metamorphic elastic sedimentary rocks, including the measurement of illite crystallinity, the determination and classification of the grades of the extreme-low metamorphic elastic sedimentary rocks by the illite crystallinity,and then discussed the controlling factors of the crystallinity of the illite.
