Abstract The article gives a brief introduction to environmental issues and policies in China. Though China has adopted a series of environmental protection measures and has thus slowed down the pace of environmental pollution in general since 1970s, especially in the recent decade, the environmental pollution centred in cities is still deteriorating. While some economically developed and densly populated areas have more serious problems of environmental polution, ecological damage is the major problem in less developed and populated or scarcely - populated areas. With exploration and practice in more that 20 years in the past, China has now established a complete framework of environmental policies.
