AbstractThe article reviewed the environmental consciousness (EC) from the view of sustainable develOPment, analysed the relationship between them from both theortical and practical sides. The main involved contents are: (1 )What is EC; (2)The arising of EC is a great awakening of people's cognition about the relationship betWeen human being and environment; (3 ) Characteristics of EC; (4) The ordinary level and high level of EC; (5)EC is necessary for the implementation of sustainable develOPment strategy; and (6 ) How to improve EC of the whole nation.
