Energy Resources and Water Power Development in Hubei Province

湖北是个能源短缺的省份，煤、石油、天然气的储量都很贫乏，远不够本省需要，仅水能资源稍多一些。受铁路运输能力的制约，湖北省近期在能源开发方面应当充分开发利用本省的水能资源，适当发展煤电，尽可能减少煤的消耗量。从长远看，尚需输入金沙江东送的水电，并适当开发核电。文中还提出几点有关加快水电开发的建议。

Hubei Province is deficient in energy resources. Especially, the reserves of raw coal, crude petroleum and natural gas are very poor, while the water power resources are rather rich. Regarding restricted transportation capacity of railways, water power must be developed in priority to thermal power in the near future. From a long-term point of view, it must be yet to import water power from Jinshajiang hydroelectric base and develop nuclear power.
