The vicarious nucleophilic substitution reaction is a type of new reaction of aromatic nucleophilic substitution. This paper describes its fundmental concepts,mechanism, regioselectivity as well as the recent progress on the applications of formation of Ar- C. Ar -O,Ar -N bonds and heterocyclic compounds in organic synthesis.
