This paper introduced the research history of ideal plant type as well as the improvement status of rice traits related with stem,leaf,spike,root and tiller,analyzed some questions related with the improvement of ideal plant type,discussed the research and application prospects of this field,and briefly analyzed the internal relationship between rice ideal plant type researches and agricultural low carbon.
