中国的东亚地区外交既是受到中国自身需要的推动,又是对东亚地区事态发展进程中出现的机会与挑战作出的反应。它的成长源于中国国内改革开放议程的启动与实施、自身对稳定与发展的迫切需要,源于中国对地区性力量的发展壮大、尤其是东亚的政治经济日渐显现的一些新特征的认识,源于中国在与东亚日益频繁、紧密地互动中不断吸取到的有益元素。在这一过程中,中国逐渐明确了以稳定、发展和参与、合作为内涵的东亚地区外交理念与政策。中国的东亚新外交塑造了它与该地区国家的新关系,以及东亚地区秩序的新图景,并将持续塑造其未来。

In the era of reform and opening-up, the development of China’s diplomacy towards East Asia is a constantly changing, enriching and deepening process. It was pushed forward both by the pragmatic needs of China itself and the opportunities and challenges coming from the East Asian region. In this process, China gradually formed its diplomacy towards the region featuring stability, development, involvement and cooperation. China's new diplomacy helped to shape a new model of relationship between China and the East Asian countries and will inevitably influence the future interrelations.
