Susan Glaspell,a famous American woman playwright, demonstrates the misunderstanding between the men and the women on the stage in her one-act play,Trifles.Based on the feminism theory, this paper deconstructs the several binary relationships of the men and women between the gender-related difference in conversational behavior, the control of the language and the freedom and oppression, which reveals the drawbacks of the male's 'report talk' and the merits of the female's 'rapport talk'.In this play the two women, along with the heroine's silent speech, subverted the male authority just by focusing their attention on the trifles that are mocked and overlooked by men.
