History of Yuan Dynasty, composed of 210 volumes, is an important book of history. By discussing on five issues about the book including costume, dance, instruments, temperament and zaju (poetic drama set to music) that are all connected with royal court music, this paper intends to shed some light on questions worthy of careful pondering: what has royal court music left behind? Why did royal court music disappear? Why does Asian music borrow pitch names from the West today instead of using the twelve temperaments from royal court music? While searching for answers to these questions, the study tries to arouse Asian artists' respect for and attention to royal court music and its culture.
