“畸人”背后的生命真相——从伯格森理论解读《小镇畸人》

Exploration of the Grotesques' Spiritual World——Influence of Henry Bergson's Theory on Winsburg,Ohio

国内不少学者认为舍伍德.安德森的《小镇畸人》受到了亨利.伯格森生命哲学思想的影响,但却很少有人分析过安德森的这部小说在哪些方面受到了伯格森哲学思想的影响。伯格森认为唯有直觉才能窥视到生命的本真;安德森作为一位精神世界的探索者也坚持通过直觉获得事物的本质。而伯格森的"绵延"理论则是对小说里畸人们深邃而斑斓的内心世界的注解。作为人类智力的产物,语言囿于作为现实世界的标记,在表现精神世界的时候常常会陷入困境。这也是导致畸人们"失语"的重要原因。

Some scholars thought that Sherwood Anderson's Winsburg,Ohio has been influenced by Henry Bergson's philosophic theory.But few of them analyzed how Henry Bergson's philosophic theory worked in this novel.Bergson held that intuition can help us understand the concept of the essence of things while Anderson,as a spiritual explorer,held the belief that a writer should penetrate through the appearance to get to the nature of the reality through intuition.Bergson's theory of 'duration' explains the complicated spiritual world of the grotesques in the novel.As the product of humans' intelligence,language,limited to the sign of the physical world,often fails to reveal the spiritual world,which contributes to the grotesques' inarticulateness.
