A BRIEF TALK ON THE THUMB RINGS IN THE QING DYNASTY

清代是我国古代工艺美术集大成的时期。高超的工艺水平和独特的审美风尚,不仅反映在尺度较大的各类工艺品上,而且在扳指一类的小型器物上也有所体现。扳指虽历史悠久,然其于满族统治中国之后才得以在全国范围内广泛流行。由于清代帝王及上层社会的喜爱与推崇,它不仅成为男子的普通配饰,还被视为身份和地位的象征,为清代各阶层竞相追捧。清代扳指在制作工艺、材质以及造型、装饰等方面,既体现出当时卓越的工艺水平,也可窥见满汉交融之审美趋向。

The Qing Dynasty is the period when ancient Chinese arts and crafts achieved the peak.The great techniques and special aesthetic tastes could be found not only from artworks of big size,but also from small pieces like thumb rings.Although the thumb ring have a long history,they are not popular until the Manchu ruled China.Because of the fondness of the upper class,thumb rings became much more than an ordinary ornament for men,they were considered to be the token of status.We can find the excellent aesthetic levels and tastes of Manchu and Han from the techniques,materials,sculpts, decorations and so on.
