On the Politics of Social Space in Border Country

本文以家屋、工作场所以及城市与乡村等社会空间为考察对象,分析威廉斯的自传体性质的小说《边界乡村》的社会空间中男性与女性、社会主义和资本主义信仰、殖民主与殖民者之间的对立冲突,进而揭示小说中所呈现的性别、阶级以及民族身份等权力结构和社会关系以及威廉斯对此的探索和思考。

This article explores the antagonism and conflict between men and women, socialist belief and capitalist belief, the colonizer and the colonized through analyzing some social spaces, such as family houses, working places, the city and the country in Raymond Williams’ s autobiographical novel Border and Country. Therefore, it exposes the power structures and social relations between genders, classes and national identities, and Williams’ s exploration and reflection on it.
